Two tries from skipper Siviwe ‘Shakes’ Soyizwapi helped kick off the Blitzboks’ Canada Sevens campaign with a convincing victory over Spain on Saturday.
With the score 19-7 at the break, Dewald Human went over for South Africa after the Spaniards copped a yellow card for slapping the ball away.
Impi Visser then added his name to the scoresheet at the end of some good play, with Shilton van Wyk prominent in the buildup, before Spain pulled one back but SA closed out strong for a 31-12 triumph.
Spain scored the opening try with Eduardo Lopez breaking free, but the comeback was instantaneous with Darren Adonis crossing the whitewash and Human converting.
The Blitzboks took the lead for the first time after a Human quick tap put Soyizwapi over in the corner. The captain dotted down once more following a hectic passage of play long after the half-time whistle.
