The Free State Cheetahs will be looking to remain unbeaten in a tricky Currie Cup match in Cape Town against Western Province on Friday.
The second-placed Cheetahs return to action following a break in the previous round and have won all of six games so far this season, while WP could manage only one win from seven starts.
But it won’t be easy, as WP have won two from their past five meetings against the men from Bloemfontein. Earlier this year, the Cheetahs won 24-17 at home on the opening weekend, but the last time the two sides met in Cape Town, in August, the hosts clinched a 40-39 thriller.
Meanwhile, the Lions will be desperate to break their losing streak in the competition against a confident Griquas side on Thursday in Johannesburg.
Griquas will be looking to make it two from two in 2022 against the Lions, following their victory in Gauteng from 2021 – a win that snapped a three-game losing streak against the men in white and red.
Last month, the team from the Northern Cape won by 49-17 in Kimberley and a victory in Joburg will ensure they remain in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals for a second year running.
The final match on the weekend, between the Sharks and the Vodacom Bulls, scheduled in Durban on Saturday, has been cancelled, with the result declared a draw and both teams receiving two log points apiece.
