On-loan Sharks centre Lukhanyo Am will make his Japan Rugby League One debut for the Kobelco Kobe Steelers on Sunday.
As part of his contract extension with the Sharks, which will keep him in Durban until 2025, Am was granted a brief sabbatical to join Kobe Steelers in Japan.
Am will be spending two months with the Japan League One side, before returning to the Sharks in time for the Vodacom United Rugby Championship playoffs.
Having arrived in Japan earlier this month, Am has been named in Kobe’s starting lineup for their clash against Brave Lupus on Sunday.
Am will be starting at outside centre in a midfield partnership with former Hurricanes and Highlanders centre Richard Buckman.
Also in action for Kobe will be former Stormers forward JD Schickerling, who will be starting at blindside flank.
The match is a crucial one for eighth-placed Kobe, who trail fifth-placed Brave Lupus by nine points and are 16 points outside the top four with three games in hand.
