Connacht punished an ill-disciplined performance from the Stormers to clinch a 19-17 victory in Galway on Saturday.
This inter-continental clash wasn’t a great encounter – a stop-start affair with neither team able to sustain the ascendancy.
However, the hosts took advantage of two second-half yellow cards against the Stormers to come away with the victory.
The Stormers led 10-7 at half time, fully deserving of that advantage.
They scored two tries through Sergeal Petersen and Damian Willemse. Unfortunately, they were made to rue the two missed conversions – both pushed off target by a strong crosswind.
It got better for the Stormers after the break as Manie Libbok scored an intercept try against the run of play to extend the lead to 10 points.
But the Stormers then lost backs Sergeal Petersen and Ruhan Nel to yellow cards because of ill-discipline and Connacht pounced.
They scored 12 unanswered points via two tries and a conversion to inflict an agonising two-point defeat on the Cape side.
