The Vodacom Bulls have announced the acquisition of some heavy armour from Leicester Tigers that is sure to give the pack more stopping power.
Cyle Brink has joined the reigning two-time Currie Cup champions from the English Premiership where he made 12 starts in 19 appearances for Leicester between 2020 and 2021.
Described by the Bulls as an “explosive loose forward” Brink was a central but unheralded member of the Lions squad that made three successive trips to the Super Rugby final between 2016 and 2018.
At 1.91m and 115kgs, the 27-year-old is a big rig of similar dimensions to former Bok No 8 Anton Leonard who somehow married the BMI of a prop with the athleticism of a loose forward.
South Africa will succeed in United Rugby Championship
For the Bulls, Brink’s point of difference is winning collisions and he will perfectly complement Elrigh Louw and Marcell Coetzee in a supercharged back row.
“Cyle is an exceptionally gifted athlete who has proven himself as a world-class rugby player from his time at the Lions and now at Leicester Tigers in England over the past year,” said Bulls director of rugby Jake White.
“We have no doubt that he will add great value to the squad, both on and off the field, and will equally contribute with his stellar performances, experience and leadership qualities. We look forward to seeing him in the blue jumper.”
