Georgia will reportedly send a team to participate in the Currie Cup First Division in 2022, while the Cheetahs may have an opportunity to join a new competition.
According to a report on Sport24, the Currie Cup Premier Division could be an eight-team tournament, if Eastern Province is included.
The tournament will also be a double round, with each team playing each other on a home-and-away basis.
The Elephants have also been bracketed for the First Division, which in 2022 could include a team from Georgia.
Georgia were set to face the Springboks in two Tests in June this year, reduced to just a single match due to a Covid-19 outbreak in both camps.
Georgia’s U20 side has also frequently faced the Junior Springboks in U20 World Championship warm-up matches.
Meanwhile, the Cheetahs have been offered an opportunity to exit their limbo. SA Rugby has reportedly received an offer from Super League America Rugby (SLAR) for the Cheetahs, Griquas and Pumas to participate in a competition involving clubs from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.
