Peter de Villiers has taken the Eastern Province Rugby Union to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) for “unpaid money”.
The former Springbok coach shocked the EPRU last month when he quit his job as EP head coach and announced he would be running as a mayoral candidate for the Good party.
De Villiers will stand as a candidate in the Drakenstein Municipality in Paarl in the local elections on Monday.
According to Rapport newspaper‘s source, the EPRU did not go through the necessary human resource procedures when the 64-year-old’s contract was terminated.
“He was only paid his last salary [for September],” said the source. “No other things like his leave days, sick leave and Unemployment Insurance Fund were paid to him. He had to be paid out. ”
De Villiers’ contract with the union was set to expire on 31 December.
