Springbok lock Marvin Orie has been elected as the new president of the South African Rugby Players’ Association.
According to Netwerk24, the six-Test jumper replaces former Western Province lock Chris van Zyl, who retired from professional rugby earlier this year. Orie’s appointment was announced to players after a meeting of Sarpa’s executive committee.
Orie replaces Oupa Mohoje who has reverted to vice president after deputising in Van Zyl’s absence, while the executive committee also features two-time Rugby World Cup winner Frans Steyn and fellow Cheetahs back Craig Barry, Bok props Lizo Gqoboka and Thomas du Toit, and SA Sevens ace Siviwe Soyizwapi.
