Four more executive members of the Western Province Rugby Union have been suspended after a high-court application to have president Zelt Marais removed failed in another twist for the union.
Sport24 reports that Reuben Riffel, Ronald Bantom, Anele Zita and Quinton van Rooyen have all been placed on suspension, joining Mario Williams and Junaid Moerat as currently suspended executives.
The suspensions centre around Western Province president Zelt Marais, who last month survived a vote of no confidence as he has come under fire for disobeying and acting in direct conflict with the instructions of the joint WPRU and SA Rugby advisory committee.
Marais has been accused of deliberately stalling a potential equity deal for the past six months and of centralising all power in his position.
A court application to have Marais removed from office was brought to the Western Cape High Court. However, the issue was struck off the roll as judge Patrick Gamble deemed that it was not urgent.
