The Lions have announced that former UCT playmaker James Tedder will be joining the team after Jordan Hendrikse was ruled out with a long-term ankle injury.
Tedder played for the University of Cape Town in the 2021 Varsity Cup and helped the team into the final, finishing the season as the second-highest points-scorer.
The Lions confirmed that the 24-year-old flyhalf, who can also play at fullback, has joined the team on a trial basis as one of two new signings.
This comes after Hendrikse suffered a broken ankle in the opening rounds of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and was subsequently ruled out for the next three months.
On-loan Pumas player Eddie Fouche is likely to start at flyhalf in the Lions’ next couple of URC fixtures, as the only fit out-and-out No 10 in the 33-man squad.
The Lions have also signed experienced prop JP Smith on a two-year deal, after the loosehead finished his stint in the USA with the LA Giltinis.
The 31-year-old, who has also represented the Stormers, has played the majority of his career in Australia for the Brumbies and Reds.
