Boks set to be dethroned at the top of the rankings

The All Blacks will replace South Africa as the No 1-ranked side in the world and Australia will rise to third when the official rankings update is released on Monday.

The Springboks’ 30-17 loss to the Wallabies came at a costly price as they will now have to relinquish their status at the No 1 Test team in world rugby.

Heading into this round of Rugby Championship fixtures, South Africa’s lead at the top of the pile had shrunk to 2.18 ratings points following last weekend’s two-point loss to the Wallabies.

Now, on the back of another loss against the same opposition, a result coupled with New Zealand’s 36-13 bonus-point victory win over Argentina, South Africa will lose the No 1 ranking for the first time since 2019.

Australia will climb to third for the first time since 2019 as well, moving above England and Ireland, who fall to fourth and fifth place, respectively.
