The Sharks have officially confirmed that former Springbok and Lions No 8 Warren Whiteley will be returning to Durban to join the team’s coaching staff.
After much speculation, it was confirmed this past Sunday that Whiteley will be ending his 12-year career as a player and coach of the Lions to join the Sharks set-up as a lineout coach.

The 33-year-old was schooled in Durban at Glenwood College and played for the Sharks XV, before making his professional breakthrough at the Lions back in 2010.
Whiteley’s appointment continues the shake-up of the Sharks coaching staff, as they have bolstered Sean Everitt’s management team with former Ireland U20 and Leinster Academy manager Noel McNamara, current South Africa Sevens coach Neil Powell and former Springbok defence coach John McFarland.
Powell will take over as defence coach in 2022 after the Sevens World Cup. In the interim, that department will be run by McFarland.

The Sharks will host Griquas in the Currie Cup semi-finals this Saturday in Durban. They will get their United Rugby Championship campaign under way against Munster on 25 September.
