Rassie Erasmus has, through his lawyer, dismissed rumours linking him with a return to South Africa to take over as Springbok coach.
Late last week speculation was rife that Allister Coetzee could be sacked as Bok coach and on Friday rumours surfaced that Erasmus was in line to make a stunning return to South Africa as his replacement.
Erasmus is currently the director of rugby at Munster, but according to a report in Afrikaans newspaper Rapport on Sunday, the Irish club has confirmed they will not block Erasmus’ move to the country of his birth, should he wish to take over from Coetzee.
It is believed Munster have already set their sights on club legend Ronan O’Gara to replace Erasmus if required. The former Ireland flyhalf is currently working as Racing 92's backline coach.
However Erasmus’ legal representatives have dismissed the rumours of his return to meet with SA Rugby bosses as a fabrication.
‘We are not aware of it,’ Frikkie Erasmus, Rassie's lawyer, told Rugby365.com.
‘Rassie has a contract with Munster and won't come here to talk to people while he is doing so well at Munster,’ he explained. ‘He is very happy in Ireland and he doesn't have the interference there that happens here in South Africa. He has a long stint to go on what is a very good contract.’
Munster beat Racing 22-10 in the European Champions Cup on Saturday, to secure a home quarter-final match.
