Western Province forward Michael Rhodes has escaped further sanctions after being cited for a dangerous tackle in the Currie Cup final last season.

The presiding judicial officer, Advocate Donny Jacobs, was satisfied with the referee’s decision to penalise the player during the match and felt that no further sanction was necessary.

The late hearing was due to delays, as it was initially set to take place in the week following the match, but had to be rescheduled twice, resulting in a postponement until this Thursday.

Rhodes was cited for a dangerous tackle in the second half of the final when he placed his arm around Sharks hooker Bismarck du Plessis’ neck in a maul and maintained his grip for a few seconds. This was in breach of law 10.4 (e) relating to dangerous tackling.
