Former Samoan international Brian Lima has quit his defence coaching position following his assault charges.
In December 2013, Lima allegedly attacked Lemalu Sina Retzlaff in public and was charged with causing actual bodily harm and being armed with a dangerous weapon.
The Samoa Observer reports that Lima’s resignation from ‘all active roles’ was confirmed by the chairman of the Samoa Rugby Union and prime minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi. In addition to his defence coach position, Lima was also head coach of Samoa A.
Samoan police have seized Lima’s travel documents and ordered him to not approach or contact Lemalu.
Lima, who earned 65 Test caps for Samoa, is the only player to have appeared at five World Cups.
