Carter caught drunk driving

Racing 92 flyhalf Dan Carter is facing a drunk-driving charge after being questioned by police on Wednesday.

French magazine Closer report that the All Blacks legend was stopped near the Champs-Elysees. His blood alcohol level was measured at 0.98 grams of alcohol per litre of blood, with the permitted rate at 0.5 grams.

According to Closer, Carter, who is currently sidelined with a leg injury, was not arrested, but will be required to appear in court.

Carter released the following statement on Facebook:

'I am sure a lot of you have seen the headlines. No excuses – I made a massive error of judgment and have let down my club, my fans and most importantly my family. I will have to now let the police/court process run its course and face the consequences. I am just glad no one was harmed. Sorry.'
