Tonderai Chavhanga is training with Jake White's Sharks ahead of the Super Rugby season.
The four-Test Bok wing, who scored six tries against Uruguay in 2005, left South Africa in 2011 to join the Newport Gwent Dragons. He played 28 matches for the Welsh regional side, before returning to Bloemfontein last year.
But things did not work out for him there and while he has not yet been given a Sharks contract, he has been training with the squad with the hope of earning one.
'Anyone who scores six tries in a Test deserves a second chance,' White told SARugbymag.co.za. 'He has always played well for me. He has struggled with injuries but in the past month he has shown great commitment. He doesn't have a contract and the fact that he is prepared to play for nothing shows how great his attitude is.
'There is no substitute for pace, and if we can get him back to his best he will have a lot to offer.'
