What was said on Twitter after World Rugby announced France as hosts for the 2023 World Cup.
That is devasting news, the joys of a secret ballot

Gutted Ireland won’t be able to showcase our ability to host a phenomenal tournament in 2023. Hopefully we’ll be going to France as title defenders at least #FutureIsGreen

Very sad that we missed out on hosting @rugbyworldcup in 2023. Just shows you how unpredictable a voting system is. I know we have crime but I dont think I will go to France with all the terror attacks going on in Europe.

France will host the Rugby World Cup in 2023. It’s better that way because these events come with lots of promises that don’t get fulfilled and the benefits of hosting don’t trickle down to the people on the ground.

“World Rugby ran exhaustive, transparent process for 15 months to identify best host nation, only for the process to go entirely opaque for past two weeks. The view of the experts and World Rugby’s leadership was overturned by @WorldRugby Council members: Jurie Roux SA Rugby CEO

“We are bitterly disappointed at this decision and would like to apologise to the people and government of South Africa for raising their hopes. ,” said Mr Mark Alexander, president of SA Rugby.
